Ritsos,The National Poet

Yiannis Ritsos, is among the gifted personalities of Greek literary heritage. He resided in Karlovasi with his family for some time. He was married to a Samian spouse, a physician named Garifalitsa who dedicated her entire life to treating the ill. Their daughter Eri is also an author of several novels. Yiannis Ritsos was born in Monemvasia May 1, 1919 .Inspired by the beauty of the Aegean sea, he sat for hours on the shore of Karlovasi pondering his thoughts. Some of his great literatuary works were created during this phase of his life. There is a monument in his memory built by the sea road in the shape of a chair to resemble the seat he used on the beach.
